UPDATED 11-11-05

Hello and a warm welcome to Miriam's (Mom's) Healthsite.  This space has been created in an effort to remain in close touch with all of Mom's family and friends during these challenging times.  Its a place to come for health updates, treatment and diagnosis specifics, chemotherapy progress, and even some personal notes from Mom!  Our hope is that we can share this time and information with each of you in an effort to breed positive thoughts, love, prayers, and a deep sense of community for Mom. (and I personally guarantee a few laughs along the way!)

On behalf of my Mom and our entire family, we send you our most heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all the love and support each of you have shown through this time.  Your thoughts and prayers are dearly appreciated. Mom tells us all the time how much she truly feels them, and she sends her deepest love to you !

We invite you to come back as often as you like, or any time you want the latest information about Mom.  Updates will come as often as possible, and the site will grow quickly, so don't stay away long!

All our Love and Gratitude, Mom, Christine, Paul, Jason, Jennifer, Erin.

MIRIAM'S  GUESTBOOK !

In response to all of your beautiful notes and wishes for Miriam/Mom, I have created this Guestbook.  It's an opportunity for you to pass along your kind thoughts and well wishes directly to her, and in turn, help in creating a strong sense of love and community through this time. Our collective embrace will undoubtedly bring the needed strength, joy, love, peace, and grace to her, and hopefully each of you.

(please note: Guestbook entries are available for all to read. Miriam can not respond directly to guestbook entries, but will continue posting notes to all in the "Notes from Mom" section below. Check back soon for the latest additions!)

"2nd Wave DONE !"

One of the pain medications that mom's taking is called "dilaudid."  It has the tendency to make her a bit loopy (hilarious outbursts, confused certainty, etc) as though she's had a few too many glasses of wine. We coined the phrase "a diLOADED moment" (trademark pending) and want to share them with you!

NEW  ALL "DILOADED MOMENTS OF THE WEEK" NEW

Mom picked up the TV remote control to make a phone call the other day.  When the call could not be completed, Mom bafflingly looked down at the remote, looked up at me, and realizing her blunder, extended the remote to me and asked "do you think they'll answer?"

So... Mom was "diLOADED" up, and on her way to Las Vegas with her sister Laura last week. They stopped at Whiskey Pete's (her late brother Mike's favorite spot) on their way into town, at Mom's insistence. (it also happened to be my sister Jennifer's birthday that day) After a quick lay of the land, mom decided to play a Unicorn Penny Slot machine. She dropped a handful of pennies into the machine and BAM, hit the largest jackpot this penny slot was capable of !! In her "diLOADEDness" she said she couldn't figure out what had happened. She tried to count the Unicorns amidst the sirens and whistles, but still could not figure out exactly what she had won. The casino attendant came over to deliver the news that Mom had won 198,000 pennies! This Whiskey Pete's coup was only topped when the casino attendant pulled out the US Tax form for Mom to fill out, considering the amount she had won. In a beautiful moment of "diLOADED" clarity, Mom opted to "pay taxes later" !!! Uncle Sam can bill her next year!!!

SO! After several hours of unmanageable pain, Mom took a very needed dose of Dilaudid on our way to the Emergency Room. Much to our surprise, there were only two other couples in the waiting room so we were happy to know that the wait would not be long. Within about 3 minutes, the nurse opened the door into the waiting room and called for the next patient. "MRS MARTINEZ!" he shouted into the room. Without skipping a beat, Mom started standing up saying "ok" ! After she got about half way up, she could see that a young Hispanic woman was already up and headed towards the door, at which time Mom sat down and said "oh yeah." Jennifer and I were cracking up, (and I have to admit we both sort of flinched too) because Mom has only been Mrs. Hull for....... oh..... only about 14 years now !!! A truly diLOADED moment!
